VISA APPLICATION PROCESS
The Brazilian visa application process has changed. Now it is required that you complete the application form on the link found below. Please be awared that an additional fee of ¥2,400 is charged when the visa is required by mail, travel agency or third party.
Important:
When you access the above link, the message of “untrusted connection” may appear. This is because the security certificate was issued by a Brazilian chain and is not recognized by most browsers. 1. Access the “Visa Request” link to fill out the whole application form and then press “Submit” to preview your application form (RER) and receive your processing number;
2. Print the form and sign it, as it is in your passport. Parents must sign for those under 18 years old;
3. Attach your photo to the RER (Photo samples can be found at the ”Form Instruction” on the site):
- 1 (one) individual colored photograph in front view, against a white background, with full face and shoulders. Your photo must have been taken within the last six months;
- The length from the bottom of chin to the top of head must be between 31 and 36mm (millimetres) in heigth;
- Snapshots, blurred image, discolored and damaged pictures are not accepted.
4. Submit the application to the Consulate General personally, by mail, travel agency or third party, with all other required documents. Note that documents may vary depending on the type of visa you are applying for;
5. The validity of the RER is 30 days from the date of issue. After that, you must fill out another application form
Request at the Consulate General: (from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.)
1. After submitting your application at the reception, you shall pay the consular fee at Banco do Brasil (Bank of Brazil) in the Consulate General.
- The consular fee for Volunteer Visa, Media Correspondents Visa and Permanent Visa, which require previous consultation to the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, can be paid only after visa issue approval.
2. Submit the bank receipt (the pink one) to the reception and finish the application.
- Even after finishing the application, the Visa Section may contact the applicant by e-mail to request additional information or documents if necessary.
3. If approved, the passport with the visa will be returned to its holder or sent by Takkyubin (cash on the delivery) in 12 (twelve) business days. The visa issue may be delayed in case of exccess of demand.
- Note that the Consulate General DOES NOT ISSUE VISAS IN THE SAME DAY OF APPLICATION, unless in case of a proven emergency
4. The process of Visas that require previous consultation to Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs takes 2 or 3 months. Please note that the visa issue may be delayed in case of exccess of demand. This Consulate General will inform the applicant about analysis result by postcard, Fax or e-mail. Please bring postcard or inform us a fax number or e-mail address when appling for the visa.
Request by mail: (Permanent visa applications can not be accepted by mail. You must fill out the form and submit it personally at the Consulate)
1. Pay the consular fee at any Japanese Bank or ATM and then send the original receipt together with the documents by registered mail or Takkyubin to the Visa Section of this Consulate General.
-The consular fee for Volunteer Visa, Media Correspondents Visa and Permanent Visa, which require previous consultation to the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, can be paid only after visa issue approval.
2. If the application is incomplete, incorrect or if any further documentation is requested, it will be returned to the sender by Takyubin (cash on delivery)
- The Visa Section may contact the applicant by e-mail to request additional information, if necessary.
3. After the visa issue, the Consulate General will return the passport via Takkyubin (cash on delivery) or by the Postal Service. Applicants must inform us the return address, name, telephone number and postal code for the delivery by Takkyubin or enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope for registered mail by the Postal Service.
4. Please be awared that it takes around 14 (fourteen) business days for processing the visa application and returning the passport, not including delivering time. The visa issue may be delayed in case of exccess of demand. Therefore, do not leave your application to the last minute and do not commit yourself to travel plans until you know when your visa will be issued.
- The Consulate General is not responsible for delayed, lost or stolen mail.
